Come aboard and join us for Wirral's Tall Ships festivities! There’s an action-packed programme planned over the weekend and our waterfront will ring with the sounds of the sea as we celebrate our maritime connections – past, present and future.
In New Brighton, there are plenty of activities for all your crew to enjoy while the ships are resting in port over in Liverpool. Somewhere Beyond the Sea (Saturday 26 & Sunday 27 May) gives you the chance to meet magical maritime creatures and take part in creative workshops inspired by the sea. A specially-commissioned illuminated sculpture created from hundreds of recycled plastic bottles will go on display at Marine Point where you can add an environmental message or pledge (Friday 25 May, from 2pm). The installation will then move to Marine Lake and light up for the first time (Saturday 26 May, 6.30pm) during a special dance performance.
As ever, New Brighton offers a stunning vantage point to catch the Parade of Sail (Monday 28 May). Live music from local choirs and artists, as well as spectacular street theatre performances, will be taking place along the promenade from Seacombe to New Brighton, as we wave farewell to the magnificent ships and their crews. Follow the Parade of Song, take a ride on a very special life boat, say hello to a living mermaid or have a selfie with sea creatures on the shore - come and join the maritime magic for a day you will never forget!
Throughout the weekend, the popular Continental Food Market will be offering a taste of foreign shores along Ian Fraser Walk.
Over in Birkenhead, the Town Hall becomes the canvas for a dazzling 3D projection (Sunday 27 May, from 6pm). The magnificent building will burst with light and sound against the dark night sky, with a dazzling display inspired by Birkenhead’s people, places and history. In the build up to the main event, there will be performances from singing pirates and circus entertainers in and around Hamilton Square, as well as creative and circus activities and food and drink stands.
